Danny Keating: no nerves ahead of Galway fight

MARIAN ROCHE

M i t c h e l s t own boxer Danny Keating’s next fight is set to be ‘a big step up’ for the local man, as he looks forward to taking on his latest adversary in a fight in Galway in April.

Keating’s opponent is yet to be announced, but the local man tells TheA vondhu he understands it to be an Argentinian fighter ‘with a strong record’.

“This is a big step up for me. I’m not nervous; more excited than nervous! This will be a massive platform for me.”.

The fight is to be broadcast live on ESPN and on TG4, and tickets for the event reportedly sold out in less than three hours. Mr Keating says that training is going well, and he is three weeks into a camp in Dublin, where he trains under Tony Davitt. By the time the Galway bout rolls around, he will have been in camp six weeks and is feeling confident.

The Conlan Boxing event takes place on Friday, 21st April in Salthill in Galway, headlined by Tribesman Kieran Molloy. The card also features boxers Fearghus Quinn, Kurt Walker, Tiernan Bradley, David Ryan, John Cooney and Gerard Hughes. Limerick’s Jamie Morrissey and Kerry’s Kevin Cronin will face each other too in a rematch of February’s Celtic title fight in Belfast.

Best of luck to Danny!
