'Pedestrian friendly measures' sought for Rathcormac

KATIE GLAVIN

More ‘pedestrian friendly’ measures have been called for in the Rathcormac area as Cllr William O’Leary has asked for the village to be considered under future funding schemes.

Tabling a motion at a recent meeting of the Fermoy Municipal District, Cllr O’Leary asked that the council consider applying under future tranches of Active Travel measures for a footpath from Rathcormac village as far as the Mondaniel Junction.

“There’s a lot of dwellings there. A few residents over the last couple of years have always asked for better connectivity in terms of footpaths,” Cllr O’Leary said.

Responding, Senior Engineer Brendan O’Gorman stated that it will be proposed if a future call for projects is made and it meets the relevant National Transport Authority (NTA) criteria.

The project, however, is unlikely to see funding this year, as Mr O’Gorman added that there has been ‘very little’ smaller local projects funded under the NTA in 2023.
