French exchange students welcomed by Presentation

On Wednesday 15th, Presentation Secondary School in Mitchelstown welcomed 11 French students from Bourgen-Bresse near Lyon, France as part of our student exchange programme. Our own students spent a week in France in January and were really looking forward to showing our visitors all that Mitchelstown and county Cork have to offer.

On Thursday, the group visited Kinsale and enjoyed exploring the town followed by a team building exercise. Friday was St Patrick’s day, the group was brought to Cork city to enjoy the magnificent parade, thankfully the rain held off and the students had a great time.

On Monday, the students came to our school and were warmly welcomed by everyone. The day started with a barista course with the TY’s, there they learned how to make a variety of coffees and create coffee art.

The LCA 1 students spent hours preparing and cooking traditional Irish foods for an ‘Irish afternoon tea’ to welcome our visitors. Here the group enjoyed apple tart, sausage rolls, green cupcakes, brownies, apple crumble, scones and soda bread with a variety of Irish cheeses. They were highly impressed with the standard of the food and were given a recipe book to bring back to France so that they could recreate the dishes at home.

Many thanks to the LCA students and their HCT teacher Laura Healy for hosting this successful event. The afternoon involved fun and craic as they learned some Irish dancing with Eileen Reilly. Tuesday marked their final day with us where they enjoyed a trip to Fota followed by some shopping in Mahon Point.

MAKING MEMORIES

We hope that our visitors enjoyed their trip to Mitchelstown and have made some special memories and lifelong friends! sincere thanks to Madame Redoutey for all of her work organising the exchange, thanks also to all of the staff in Presentation that accompanied the students on trips and made the stay so special.

Finally, thanks to the host families for welcoming the students into their homes and showing them what a warm Irish welcome looks like. Au revoir!
