Blackwater Community students represented at All-Ireland Championships

Congratulations to our badminton teams who represented BCS at the All-Ireland Championships in Gormanstown last Wednesday. The U19 girls team (Kate, Katie, Síbhe, Niamh and Molly) and the U16 boys team (Oisín, Brian, Eoin, Charlie and TJ) both claimed silver medals in Division 1. The U14 boys team (Conor, Ruadhrai, Tadgh, Paul and Billy) gave a great account of themselves against tough opposition. Well done to all students and staff involved.

BLAST WORKSHOPS

Thank you to the Art Department for organising a series of BLAST (Bringing Live Arts to Students and Teachers) workshops with Louise Bradley with 1st and 2nd year Art students over a three-week period.

Students chose artworks to inspire them. Louise demonstrated some fantastic drama skills to help them perform freeze frame and moving artworks.

FLAHAVANS TRIP

Thank you to the Business Department for organising a trip to the Coach House in Dungarvan for our 70 5th Year Business students on Tuesday. They spoke with representatives from Flahavans.

BRIERY GAP

Well done to students involved in The Briery Gap final in The Everyman Theatre in Cork on Mon 20th. The group of 31 consisted of TY students with a little help from two 5th years, Joe Motherway and Joe O’Keeffe. This is a light entertainment competition where students perform a production of 15 minutes that has a mixture of song, dance and music. BCS was one of 11 schools that made it to the final. Scared Heart School, Clonakilty were awarded the top prize. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to perform in such a prestigious theatre. The students did the school proud and represented much of the talent present in BCS.

LC MUSIC PRACTICALS

Well done to our Leaving Cert Music students who performed for their Music Practicals on Monday.

RSA INTERACTIVE UNIT

Our Transition Year students attended sessions in the RSA’s Road Safety Interactive Unit, known as the Shuttle, on Monday and Tuesday. The Shuttle is a simulator which helps to get across important and life-saving road safety messages in a fun and highly memorable way.

CLOTHING COLLECTION

The BCS Parents Association has organised a clothing collection service in aid of Extra Curricular Activity in the school. Bags of clothing cans be dropped to the BCS Sports Hall from 8am on Thursday, 30th March. Support would be greatly appreciated.
