Colman’s musical a true hit

Last weekend, Transition Year students from St. Colman’s College and Loreto took to the stage in the Palace Theatre, Fermoy to perform the annual musical.

This year’s production, ‘West Side Rumble’ was an enormous success, selling out both Friday and Saturday nights and earning rave reviews as well as standing ovations from audience members.

West Side Rumble, loosely based on the classic West Side Story told the tale of two rival gangs in 1950s New York City. Featuring some of the iconic songs like ‘America’ and ‘ Tonight,’ all sung with gusto by the amazingly talented cast, West Side Rumble set out to keep the audience on the edge of their seats and achieve this they did.

“I am so proud of all the hard work and dedication that these students put into this production,” said producer and choreographer Ms. Smith of St. Colman’s College. “They truly brought their all to every rehearsal and performance, and it showed in their incredible performances on stage.”

Indeed, while some of the students involved have a background in musical theatre, for some it was their first venture on stage – no mean feat!

This joint production of West Side Rumble was a true showcase of the talent and dedication of Fermoy’s drama and musical talent, and a testament to the wonderful and supportive community. We especially want to thank director Valarie O’Leary, the orchestra under the direction of Sarah Dewhurst, lights and sound engineers Alan McCormack and Dirk Baumann, Diarmuid Vaughan for his expert set design and construction and everyone else that contributed. Congratulations to all involved on a job well done!
