Re: Nasty Dog Attack
I write in follow up to your correspondent’s letter (March 23rd edition) concerning the ‘nasty dog attack’ which she experienced and described in your letters page recently. In my view this was a critical incident that could easily have had a fatal outcome if a child or indeed an adult was attacked.
I would encourage our communities to treat this as a ‘red flag’ event, and insist that our elected county councillors and TDs take immediate action to ensure the current legislation relevant to restricted dog breeds is enforced. Any less response is negligent given the prevalence of this problem in our communities.
Finally, given the importance of this subject, I am disappointed that you did not give this event more prominence in your publication. Indeed, if it were not for the bravery of Ms Lane we would be unaware of this episode. It begs the question if other similar episodes have gone unreported.
Yours sincerely, Joe Moran, retired GP, Fermoy.
