Entertainment at its best

Over the course of approximately 10 days we in Mitchelstown have been so lucky to have been entertained in the highest possible manner by three events that have taken place.

Firstly, on Saint Patrick’s Day, in the wonderful setting of St George’s Arts and Heritage Centre we were treated to an extraordinary free concert by Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann who were joined by Claisceadal na gCarad. This concert displayed all that is best about Irish music and dance and the level of talent from all involved was extraordinary. It was so obvious that all taking part were totally enjoying the experience as well as the toe tapping and clapping audience.

Then on the following Wednesday night, just up the road in Kilworth, we were treated to another wonderful night’s entertainment by the Chamber Philharmonic Europe. This, though totally different, was another example of how privileged we are to have heard this orchestra play music by the great composers such as Vivaldi, Bach and Mozart. The 2022 season saw them play in many great concert halls in Europe including Paris, London, Cologne and Luxembourg to name but a few. So delighted were the audience with their performance, that they were given a few standing ovations and finished off the night with a piece of jazz that had the audience enchanted.

Again, from Thursday night last, Mitchelstown Musical Society put on ‘Disco Inferno’. This show was spectacular and the commitment for months by the cast and wonderful orchestra was evident from the time we stepped out of our cars and entered the world of the Disco. The lighting, the sound and the technology involved were outstanding and at times one could be forgiven for thinking we were in the West End.

From the people who sold the tickets dressed in their black and red bell bottom pants and red scarves and hair bands, to the wonderfully talented cast, we were transported right back to the 1970s and the disco era. Each night saw standing ovation after standing ovation and we left for home exhilarated and entertained. We are so fortunate to have the Leisure Centre as a venue that is capable of staging this musical extravaganza.

Thanks to all concerned for making the last 10 days so memorable.

Sincerely, Bunty Flynn, Mitchelstown.
