Fermoy unlucky

Last Sunday our senior team travelled to Raffeen Creek to play against a strong Collins side in the semi-final of the Cork leagues. This was always going to be a hard game as they have so many top players.

It started off with doubles, Fermoy were 2-1 down with a win for Daniel/Dylan and unlucky losses for Noel/Paudi and Decky/Gary. Next were the singles. An early exit for JJ O’Connor saw Fermoy 3-1 down, Dylan getting Fermoy a point. The next 4 games were all close. Daniel just lost on the last and the other 3 games went to tie holes. Collins just caught Fermoy with a 5-4 win.

Big thanks to Noel for his hard work over the last few weeks and well done to the team.

LADIES REPORT

A sad week for Fermoy Pitch and Putt Club. On Wednesday, 22nd March our club members were saddened on the announcement of the death of Mary Morrissey RIP.

Mary passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in the exceptional care of the staff at the Bon Secours Hospital in Cork. Mary was lady captain in 2003 alongside chairman John O’Hara RIP and gents captain Willie Burke. Mary was a fantastic club member all her life. She was a dear friend of everyone in the club and also to members of clubs around the country. Mary was a kind, gentle, wonderful lady who was respected by everyone

She loved the game and won a lot of prizes. She always enjoyed the social events held in the clubhouse and when the music ended joined in the sing songs on many a great night.

Mary will be deeply missed by everyone but never forgotten as we all have cherished memories of Mary. Our deepest sympathy to all of Mary’s family and her sister Frances. You are all in our thoughts and prayers during this sad time. May Mary’s gentle soul rest in peace.

On behalf of the ladies and the club our sincere condolences to all the McCarthy family on the death of Peggy. You are all in our thoughts and prayers during this sad time. Peggy was a lovely lady, so kind and gentle and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. May Peggy’s gentle soul rest in peace.

TOM FITZGERALD TEAM EVENT

Last Saturday we had 4 players travel to Brinny to play in the Tom Fitzgerald team event. Fermoy won this competition last year. Fermoy played well but unfortunately the scoring was very high. Thanks to Brinny for the top course.
