Victory for Fermoy in the Senior Football League

Fermoy travelled to Aghada on Sunday morning last, 26th March. Weather conditions were good but both teams began slowly. The first score of the game came to Fermoy in the 5th minute and the lads scored another 2 points in the 10th and 12th minutes of the first half putting Fermoy 0-03 to 0-00 without reply after 12 minutes. Aghada scored their first point after 13 minutes and added a second point in the 18th minute.

Fermoy extended their lead in the 18th minute adding a point and leaving the score Fermoy 0-04 to Aghada 0-02. Over the next 5 minutes both had missed chances and in the 23rd minute of the first half Aghada added a goal to leave Aghada leading by 01-02 to 0-04. Fermoy had points on the board on the 26th and 28th minutes. Aghada added another point in the 27 minute to leave the teams level at half-time Fermoy 0-06 Aghada 01-03; scorers for Fermoy in the first half were Paidi de Róiste (0-02); Dave Lardner (0-02); Tomas Clancy (0-01); Shane Aherne (0-01). Half time Fermoy 0-06 Aghada 01-03.

Fermoy continued to play well into the second half and were ahead 0-07 to 01-03 in the first minute of the second half and within 2 minutes added a well taken goal by Gary O’Callaghan to put Fermoy ahead by 01-07 to 01-03. This goal would prove to be crucial. Both teams exchanged points, Fermoy in the 5th and 12th minutes and Aghada in the 5th, 13th and 17th minutes. Fermoy added another point in the 20th minute to leave them ahead by 4 points 01-10 to 01-06. Both teams added 3 points each from there to the final whistle and the Fermoy lads ran out deserving winners on the day.

Scorers in the second half for Fermoy were Gary O’Callaghan (01-00); Paidi de Róiste (0-01); Dave Lardner (0-02); Tomas Clancy (0-01) and Ben Twomey (0-03).

The final score was Fermoy 01-13 Aghada 01-09, a well-deserved victory for Fermoy and well done to all involved.

VOTES OF SYMPATHY

The club extends its sympathy to the families and extended families of the following that have been called to their eternal reward:

Mary Morrissey (nee Lillis), Liam MacGearailt Place, Fermoy Co Cork. Mary passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, beloved wife of Danny and dear mother of Rory, Wesley, Aaron and the late Paul, sister to Frances (Tobin) and the late Tony and John. She is sadly missed by her husband, family, grandchildren, daughters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and friends. May she rest in peace.

John Hickson, Boherderroge, Fermoy, Co Cork and formerly Lispole, Co Kerry passed peacefully in his 78th year at his daughter’s home in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim. He was retired principal of St Colman’s College, Fermoy and beloved husband of the late Mary (nee Daffy), and sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and friends. May he rest in peace.
