CAVANAGHS OF FERMOY DIV 1 FOOTBALL LEAGUE Ballyhooly 3-6 Mallow 1-7

Ballyhooly claimed a further win in round three of the Division 1 Football League last Sunday against Mallow. In surprisingly good conditions given the previous week's weather Ballyhooly stayed ahead all the time on the scoreboard, despite a hefty challenge from Mallow at times.

Within five minutes full forward Tom Crowley created a chance on goal and was only denied by good goalkeeping. Seamus Roche finally opened the scoring after ten minutes with a point from play; we had a few more chances that just didn't work out after that until a flick by Tom Crowley set Kevin Kiely up for goal number one to put us ahead 1-1 to no score after a quarter of an hour.

Mallow responded with two points from play and were denied a certain goal by a brilliant save from Cian Murphy. Kevin Kiely added a point from a free to our tally before scoring his second goal of the half twenty minutes in.

Dylan Collins converted a great pass from Haydn Kelleher and Diarmuid Linehan took a point from play to leave us up 2-4 to 0-4 points at half-time.

A less breezy second half seemed to favour Ballyhooly but it took some time to settle back in. Mallow had a good start and pressed hard for the first quarter of an hour but only managed to add two points to their score. Ballyhooly weathered the pressure making changes for fresh legs after ten minutes. Kevin Kiely extended the lead with points in the 14th and 18th minutes to which Mallow couldn't respond.

Ballyhooly were now up 2-6 to Mallow's 0-6. Further changes were introduced after twenty minutes and new man on Shaun O'Mahony sealed the win with a goal straight away. A point from a ‘45 and a fortuitous goal closed Mallow's account, leaving the final score Ballyhooly 3-6 Mallow 1-7. A great team effort and another good win for Ballyhooly.
