Juniors lose out on Sunday last

Our juniors kicked off their season last Sunday when we took on Dungarvan in round 1 of the Adult League. With both teams understrength and it being the first competitive game of the season there was a distinct lack of sharpness as it took both teams a while to settle into the game and get back up to speed.

Dungarvan made the better start and registered 1-01 in the opening minutes before Leanne Sheehan opened Shamrocks’ account with a fine point. Dungarvan continued to add on the points before a superb individual goal from Deirdre Roche and another from Leanne Sheehan saw Dungarvan lead by just a goal at half-time. That was the margin between the sides for the majority of the second half with both sides trading scores before Dungarvan finished the stronger and in the end ran out deserving winners. Final score: Dungarvan 3-10 Shamrocks 2-05. Our next game is at home to Drum Rangers on April 9th.

U16 CHAMPIONSHIP

Our U16s also kick off their Championship this week with a home game against Stradbally in round 1 of the U16 Championship. We then make the trip to Williamstown next Monday evening to take on Erins Own in round 2.

WATERFORD SENIORS

The Waterford Seniors concluded their LIDL National League campaign in Parnell Park last Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately the home side proved to be too good and in the end had a comfortable 5-08 to 0-07 win, with Waterford guilty of conceding some poor goals which ultimately proved to be the difference between the teams.

It was great to see Catherine Hynes making her first start in the Waterford forward line and acquitting herself so well throughout the league, and to Neesha Whelan and Aobhla Motherway who also got playing time and have ensured Waterford have secured their Division 1 status for another season as attention now turns to the Munster Championship in a few weeks’ time.
