Blackwater search and rescue mission concludes

After enjoying the carnival atmosphere on St. Patrick’s Day, and the huge emphasis we place on having everything ready, our next outing came quickly and unexpectedly.

The Blackwater Search and Rescue Unit were tasked and activated to partake in a missing persons search recently on the River Blackwater.

Water conditions were difficult due to large amounts of rainfall recently which in turn greatly affected river speed and underwater visibility along with raised river levels.

Our club boats left the clubhouse every morning, conducting river scans using the club’s side scan sonar scanner, as well as underwater searches which proved extremely difficult and surface searches to ensure nothing was missed along the river.

Once again we were able to rely on the additional help from other agencies, namely our friends in Rescue 117 that enhanced the surface searches, an Garda Síochána for their support, guidance and constant updates and the ever supporting public.

A huge ‘ thank you’ to everyone who turned out and made themselves available throughout the search period, as usual we had a great response from everyone on the Blackwater Search and Rescue team.

The Blackwater Search and Rescue Unit wish to extend their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the bereaved.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
