Road improvements imminent in Ballyhooly

KATIE GLAVIN

Works are to get underway soon that will see improvements and resurfacing of a portion of Main Street in Ballyhooly, where the section of road from the school towards the corner of the street in the Mallow direction is to be tackled.

News of this follows as Cllr Frank O’Flynn tabled a motion regarding the issue, seeking that the road be updated and road marking applied in the interests of safety.

Speaking at the recent Fermoy Municipal District meeting in March, Cllr O’Flynn stated that the road surface is in ‘very, very poor condition’.

Pointing to the upcoming summer season, the Glanworth councillor called for the improvements to be made, highlighting the need to ‘improve the look of the Blackwater Valley’.

Senior Engineer with Cork County Council, Brendan O’Gorman, stated that the council recently applied for and received additional TII defect funds for resurfacing a section of the carriageway, directly north of the pedestrian crossing adjacent to the church.

At the meeting on Tuesday, March 21, Mr O’Gorman stated that the council were ‘within two weeks from commencement of these works’, but noted that the work was weather-dependent.

“Relining of the N72 is a matter for the TII but a relining works contract is imminent and is being rolled out by Kerry RDO on behalf of the TII,” he added.

CASTLETOWNROCHE

Cllr O’Flynn also welcomed works for Castletownroche, where the main street towards the church is to be tackled, as is the area by the bridge.
