Flood takes Munster title at tender age

PAT LEE

Patrick Flood of Fermoy won the Munster Intermediate Road Bowling Championship final on Sunday at Ballincurrig. This was

an outstanding achievement by this 19 year old, who is the first to take this title at such a young age.

This was a very close contest between himself and the West Cork champion, Donal O’Riordan, where

O’Riordan led up until the no play line, but then Pa got an extremely long shot to then take the lead. But when Pa was about to gain a bowl of odds, he got caught badly at one of the bends, so then O’Riordan took the lead again up the straight.

However, Pa came back on him with another tremendous shot to almost level the score. Now with only two shots to go, O’Riordan got a great shot that went around the last bend but Pa got a better shot to take the lead by about three metres.

O’Riordan’s last shot for the finish line was a mighty one as he went well past the finish line, so it was all to play for as Pa lined up to do the impossible. And so he did, where he beat it by just five metres to take this prestigious intermediate title.

He now goes forward to represent Munster in the All-Irelands finals later on this year.
