Fermoy U16s advance to quarter-final of cup
On a perfect day for rugby Fermoy travelled to Cobh for the business end of the season.
Fermoy got off to a great start when Sean O’Flynn shot out of the line to intercept a pass and go in under the post. Padraig O’Toole who had a flawless days kicking slotted the extras, 0-7. Will Hanley showed he was back to his best after a recent shoulder injury with 3 tries to his name. Liam Duffy kept his try count ticking over as well with a well taken try out wide. Fermoy opened a big lead at this point, 0-33. A training pitch moved had our big 2nd row Cathal Kelly crash over under the post, 5-40.
The Cobh lads rallied in the 2nd half with a few well taken scores and had the score back to 22-40. Fermoy hit a purple patch again and we had tries from Eoghain Hanley and Padraig. Podge cut the backline in two with a well taken individual score. Final score was 22-54 and the lads march on to next round away on Saturday.
Some great performances all round and the lads showed a great level of maturity, controlling the game all the way through.
We have a few lads involved with Munster youths and we wish them all the best. Hopefully we will have a few lads tog out in the Munster red soon.
